David Boulogne

The work of London-based artist David Boulogne consists of a psychological observation of our most common apprehensions.

His work encapsulates circumstances of the Extra-Ordinary and the continual questioning of the objectivity of the real. Most importantly, through photography Boulogne explores the problematic of the Appearance.

The medium of Photography for Boulogne contains an untapped potential, which has scarcely been penetrated, especially in its rawest aspect.

The fewer the tools, the greater the imagination.

Ben Okri

The strength of Photography exists in the abstract development made from its production. It has the capability to project new mental fields.

Photography for Boulogne is a mirror, not an answer. His pictures reflect the spectrum of human emotions, our core being. His images are neither meticulously composed nor voluntarily irrational. Nor are they rigorously directed or arbitrarily fragile. His images are never retouched, for this act would disturb what has been seen.

DB: ‘My eyes are filtered with a dimension which has to be given to all of us. Beauty is everywhere and cannot be diagnosed but only described, similar to the art of portrayal. As long as those two enigmas stay unsolved, we can remain optimistic.’

Through the production of his work Boulogne is fulfilling what he views as ‘a super personal task’.

The meaning of my existence is that life has addressed a question to me. Or, conversely, I myself am a question, which is addressed to the world, and I must communicate my answer, for otherwise I am dependent upon the world's answer.

Carl Jung
