Maddalena Ambrosio’s series of large photoworks relate to her fictional alter ego character, Super Maddy, who is depicted flying over her hometown of Naples. She gets involved in different extraterrestrial adventures and like all the Superheroes is endowed with special powers and on a courageous mission to save the world. The story takes as its premise that reality and illusion are the same thing, allowing Super Maddy to give free reign to Ambrosio’s imagination through the novel medium of a fairy tale cum Marvel comic.
Her sculptural installation Anacromie suggests the storage of memory on film encapsulated within transparent silicone bricks. These beautifully crafted objects follow the dimensions of the traditional bricks used in Neapolitan architecture. As in Philip K. Dick’s novel, on which the movie Total Recall, was based, Anacromie proposes that all sensory data associated with experiences can be recorded and played back allowing you to actually relive these moments.
